Grand Canyon West Rim – Skywalk Worth It?

grand canyon west vs south

A bitter cold and huge fog marked the day when we finally paid a visit to The Grand Canyon West. Initially, we wanted to visit the South Rim as most of the reviews favoured it, however, due to the long driving hours it was going to take us from Las Vegas, we leaved it for another time.

First off, just the fact that it is a canyon, already makes it awesome for me. I’ve been wishing to see something like this so long ago. So much history was involved in this. Fortunately, we had the chance to dive deeper into the Hualapai tribe culture, eat some of their traditional food, see their dances and last but not least, see and purchase their beautifully handcrafted products (can’t deny their are a little expensive though, but that’s the only thing they do for a living).

One of the most common questions I’ve seen people asking a lot: Is the Grand Canyon Skywalk worth it?

The Skywalk package costs around $80 and it includes the entrance to the Skywalk and a meal. The Grand Canyon website also claims it includes the shuttle for all the viewpoints but it’s just something they added to have a longer list. All the packages include it.

The people who I traveled along with all said it wasn’t worth it. I personally didn’t even bat an eye as soon as I looked at the price. We were 3, and paying $120 more for 15 minutes in the Skywalk was definitely not going to be worth it for such a foggy day. You are allowed to stay longer but really what are you going to do? You can’t even take pictures. We could’ve considered it if the weather cooperated but it didn’t. No regrets though. The only difference I can find is that it’s safer to stand on the Skywalk glass bridge than on the edge of the canyon (since there’s nothing preventing you from falling into the river.) The view, the same. If adrenaline is what you are looking for, try sitting closer to the edge (be careful though!) because knowing that you are over a glass bridge won’t make you afraid unless you have a fear for heights.

Have a look into the pictures and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
